This list indicates the top 20 highest-paid Fortnite players in the world. It considers only earnings from professional esports tournaments.
Fortnite features the biggest prize pools in esports, only behind the gigantic The International by Valve. Considering the total prize money awarded, Fortnite will soon hold the second place among the esports games as it almost surpassed CS:GO.
In the 2018-2019 season, Epic Games provided $100,000,000 to fund prize pools for Fortnite competitions. Even if many players and talents criticize how Epic Games is managing the esports scene, no one can deny that they invested lots of money to develop it.
The Fortnite team claimed that they are taking a different approach: “we plan to be more inclusive, and focused on the joy of playing and watching the game”.
The Fortnite World Cup is the prime event of the year, and in 2019 Epic Games handed out over $30 million in prizes among four categories: Solo, Duos, Pro-Am, and Creative.
The winner of the Solo division, Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf, brought home $3 million, jumping to the top of the leaderboard. The Fortnite World Cup 2019 has been a life-changing experience for several participants as the amount of money involved is remarkable for 16/20-year-old players.
In series 11, the Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) will shift its focus on squad play with four teammates. This is a news for fans, players, and teams, because so far Epic Games mainly awarded the individual skills of the players.
The Fortnite team has the following goals for Chapter 2:
Give players more opportunities to play with different squads without totally harming their chances of qualification.
Retain the value of consistent competitive play over the course of the season for the squads who wish to remain together.
Fortnite is still a relatively new game in the esports scene, but undoubtedly it already provides a great number of opportunities to aspiring pro players and streamers due to the big amount of organizations involved.
The following data includes only revenues from esports tournaments because we can’t have precise info on all the money earned by the players via team wages and direct sponsorships.
Be aware that Fortnite is a very popular game on Twitch, so many tier 1 players have a loyal fan base, and their actual earnings are higher thanks to subscriptions, donations, and sponsorship deals.
