Fortnite Rank Distribution in August 2024: Battle Royale and Zero Build
The Fortnite rank distribution in both Battle Royale and Zero Build in August 2024, Chapter 5 Season 3. Based on the data of millions of players. All regions included.
Source of the data
Epic doesn’t share official and updated data on the rank distribution, but fortunately there are many third-party websites that collect info from their users.
Each website can only access the data of the users using their service. I analyzed all the websites available, and finally I concluded that Fortnite Tracker is the most reliable one due to the huge number of visitors.
All regions included.
Data from all platforms.
Players with private profiles are excluded.
The following dataset has the purpose of creating a plausible rank distribution by collecting data from as many players as possible. With over 2.1 million players in Battle Royale, and 0.8 million in Zero Build (Chapter 5 Season 3) we can consider this distribution very realistic.
I will update the data monthly, so we will have an idea on how the rank distribution evolves over time, and if there is any change.

Difference between Battle Royale and Zero Build rank distribution
The rank distribution in Zero Build is quite different from the one in Battle Royale. I believe there are three main factors influencing it.
Number of players. Currently, Zero Build has about a half of the playerbase of Battle Royale, so it is harder to find enough people to queue at high levels, which in turn slows down everyone’s progress. People often complain about long queue times at Platinum and above.
Gameplay. In Zero build, there are no player-built defenses, so you must rely solely on the map conformation and existing structures for protection. Failure to find a cover when rotating or engaging the opponent exposes the player to enemy fire, so it is easier to die, which further impedes progress.
Different playerbase. The absence of building mechanics in Zero Build may attract a different demographic of players. I think that Battle Royale is played by more hardcore players as this is the original game mode introduced by Fortnite, while Zero Build appealed to a newer and casual playerbase afterwards. Hardcore players tend to dedicate more time to the game, and thus rank up faster and higher.

Fortnite ranked play explained
Epic introduced ranked play in version 24.40 during the so-called Season Zero, which lasted until the end of Chapter 4 Season 3.
The starting rank in Season Zero was based on our past match performance, and on our performance in the first Ranked Battle Royale and Ranked Zero Build match.
There are a total of eight ranks, and the first five are split into three tiers each.
The Unreal rank tends to become overcrowded near the end of the season because after reaching it, you can’t return to a previous rank, independently from your future performance.
How to rank up
The lobby shows a progress bar indicating how far you are from advancing to the next rank or returning to the previous one.
The progress bar is influenced by two factors:
Your match placement.
How many eliminations you or your team got in the match.
Eliminations later in the match will count more than eliminations earlier in the match.
The ranks of the players you or your team eliminated will be taken into account.
Party rank
All team members will gain and lose progress equally based on team eliminations and team placement calculated at the end of a match.
Your team’s rank will be determined by the highest-ranked player on the team.
