Dota 2 Competitive Hero Tier List March 2020

The Dota 2 Competitive Hero Tier List for March 2020 includes data from patches 7.24b, 7.25, and 7.25a, for a total of 167 games. The heroes are split in five groups.

  • All heroes are arranged in five tiers based on their draft rate. The tiers are viewed as clusters of data, and each hero is placed in the one they are closer the most.

  • The requisites for each tier never change. The goal is offering a neutral comparison that shows how the meta evolves over time.

  • The win rate has no effect on the tiers, but is included for further info. The tiers depend only on drafts (picks + bans), and aren’t affected either by the win rate of a hero, or by their performance in pub matches.

This tier list contains all pro matches played from March 1st to 27th during versions 7.24b, 7.25, and 7.25a, including WeSave! Charity Play.

Past Tier List: February 2020

Snapfire

Snapfire is one of the most first-picked and first-banned heroes in competitive games. Pro players blindly pick her because she is a very versatile support with a powerful skillset who is able to influence the outcome of most lane battles.

All Snapfire’s spells provide damage (physical or magical) and crowd control: movement speed slow, stun, and attack speed reduction.

She doesn’t require specific items to do her job, so can be played as a position 4 or 5, and can build any of the essential supportive items needed by the team.

Skill build

Most of the players follow the 3-2-0-1 or the 3-1-1-1 skill builds in the first six levels.

Lil’ Shredder is often neglected in the early game due to its poor efficiency. This is similar to what happens with Ogre Magi’s Ignite, where investing more than a couple of levels isn’t worth it early on.

Snapfire is very cooldown dependent, and Lil’ Shredder has a 24 seconds cooldown.

It isn’t worth upgrading it (which would decrease its cooldown) because it only deals damage (plus attack speed reduction) while the other skills also stun and slow the opponents: they are more valuable in the laning phase as you can land a few extra hits on the fleeing enemies, and any extra hit adds at least 50 damage.

You may consider a point into Lil’ Shredder only when facing a dual melee lane where you are able to harass the opponents consistently. Instead, having two points into Scatterblast and one into Firesnap Cookie is the optimal choice in most matchups because this combo brings a huge destructive and killing power at level 3.

Snapfire was rather overpowered at release, so Icefrog adjusted her several times in the past months, but she is still a very strong pick. Most abilities have been nerfed (particularly Mortimer’s Kisses), while Scatterblast has been untouched, with just a cooldown increase at lower levels - it will act as your main nuke during the laning stage.

Firesnap Cookies is an amazing ability as it is basically an AoE stun with damage. It scales well with levels, increasing the stun duration and the impact damage, and even reducing its cooldown. This ability can be a game-changer at any time of the match because it doesn’t only help in ganks and harassing, but it can also save your teammates from nasty situations.

Finally, Scatterblast and Firesnap Cookies let you clear creep waves and jungle camps quickly, which is useful to acquire extra gold when no core hero is farming a certain place of the map.

Basic combo

  • Firesnap Cookie on yourself or an ally, Lil’ Shredder (if you levelled it already), and Scatterblast.

Scatterblast is the last skill because you don’t want to overlap its slow with the stun provided by Firesnap Cookie. However, depending on the situation and the placement of the targets, you may have to activate Scatterblast immediately or execute a few auto-attacks first.

If you want to secure some kills early on, be sure to buy Mangoes as Snapfire has a low mana pool, so you may have to eat them to perform the full combo.

Most bought items by pros

These are the most bought items on Snapfire by pro players during March:

  • Arcane Boots: 23

  • Mekansm: 19

  • Tranquil Boots: 15

  • Force Staff: 13

  • Guardian Graves: 9

  • Glimmer Cape: 9

  • Hood of Defiance: 4

  • Ghost Scepter: 4

  • Vladimir’s Offering: 4

  • No one bought Aghanim’s Scepter.

The list doesn’t include consumables and basic items.

Arcane Boots is a critical item in her build. Snapfire’s skills have a high mana cost, and she is a strength-based hero with 291 mana at level 1 - using Scatterblast and Firesnap Cookie consumes 180 mana.

As a caster with four active abilities, silence is your best counter as you will become useless, thus you must build Guardian Greaves in most games to dispel it. Of course, this item also hard counters skills such as Silencer’s Global Silence.

Force Staff and Glimmer Cape are among the best utility items for supports, boosting the survivability of the whole team.

Ghost Scepter and Hood of Defiance are more situational picks that work well when facing certain opponents. Vladmir’s Offering is a great item to have in most teams, however, if your lineup requires it, someone else may have purchased it already as you don’t rush it.

The Aghanim’s upgrade has been added in patch 7.25: you can swallow and then spit an ally hero or creep towards enemies, stunning the ones in the area for 1.5 seconds, inflicting damage, and leaving a glob of fire on the floor that damages and slows movement speed.

The ability has a spectacular effect, and could be used for long-range initiations and escapes, but none of the pro players bought it in March. Getting Aghanim’s Scepter in a tournament game is often not viable for a support as there are just too many items and consumables they must acquire to help the team.

On the other hand, Aghanim’s Scepter is one of the most bought items in pubs (considering all ranks), just after Guardian Graves and Force Staff.

In the video below, MiniTV explains laning, items, skill build, and team fighting with Snapfire.

Counters

Ranged heroes

Snapfire excels against melee heroes. She has a low attack range of 500, so most supports are able to outrange her. As soon as you run out of mana, you won’t be able to intimidate the lane opponents with your burst damage, and they may harass you freely.

Snapfire possesses excellent skills, but she is very mana and cooldown dependent, so an expert player knows how and when to fight against her. She starts with a solid 600 health pool, but has a low 46‒52 damage, and her amor is just average at 2.56: there are many heroes who can successfully trade hits against her.

Picks such as Silencer, Enchantress, and Lina works well in the laning phase. As stated before, Silencer is also a hard counter because he can interrupt her ultimate and prevent any skill thanks to Global Silence.

Mobility heroes

Heroes with high mobility like Storm Spirit, Slark, Nyx Assassin, and Anti Mage can pickoff Snapfire at any time, and easily dodge her abilities in team fight.

Items

  • Black King Bar nullifies all her abilities. You really want to build one against her as fighting in the middle of Mortimer Kisses’ fire pools will lead to your death.

  • Pipe of Insight gives magic resistance and blocks 400 magic damage to all nearby allies: a player in the team must always rush it when facing Snapfire.

  • Blade Mail is very easy to time correctly against her ultimate and Lil’ Shredder; you will inflicts lots of damage and potentially kill her.

  • Diffusal Blade burns her mana, which is very problematic for a hero with such a low mana pool, and the movement speed slow helps when hunting her.

  • Orchid Malevolence is a good pick simply because silencing a caster will render them helpless for the duration.
