Focus on defense. I know that Symmetra can be played also in attack, but in these guides I will show only placements for the defender team. Note that some of them might work even for the attackers.

Safe placements. The Shield Generator has an unlimited duration and will keep working until destroyed. The enemy team will try to find and break it as soon as possible, so it is essential to place it in a hidden and “secret” location.

The best spots. I will show you some of the best placements in each map that work even at high SR, and alert when you should avoid an overused or risky one. Beside these locations, there are other viable options depending on your skill rating, but I skipped the obvious ones.

Position and range. The main spots have also pictures showing the max range of each Shield Generator.

No turret climbing or Mei required. For this series, I decided to not feature spots that can be reached only via Mei’s Ice Wall or turret climbing.

Shield Generator or Teleporter. I will not argue about the perfect choice on each map and point, but just explain the best spots for the former. Of course, some of these locations can be used also for the latter.

Please note. I used Sentry Turrets to mark most of the secondary or wrong Shield Generators placement. Unfortunately, it is necessary to restart the lobby to place a new one.

Watchpoint: Gibraltar

First Point

The first area has no optimal locations for the Shield Generator: the building on the left of the attacker’s spawn can’t be defended, and the high ground is too open as any position can be reached and flanked easily.

This is the main spot for the second section of the first point. I guarantee you that no one will come this far to search for the Shield Generator, and its effect extends until the end of Pit.

An alternative location with pretty much the same range. It is still really safe, but some players know about it. Honestly, in most ranks you will have no issues whatever placement you decide to use.

Avoid the high ground area on the right side (third image): it is unsafe as often teammates and opponents get there.

There are several bad spots in this point, but in particular I wanted to highlight this room. I saw Symmetra players placing a generator here, and then creating a “room of death” loaded with turrets.

In my opinion, it is an awful idea as you will waste time and resources to protect an obvious placement.

Second Point

This is the only viable spot on the second point. It is excellent because is far away from the battle, protects a large area (including the Shuttle), and only people that know this placement will come here before conquering the second point.

Alternatively, you can place the generator also in the room below, but it makes no sense as it will be more vulnerable.

The defender’s spawn room; you can build inside it after losing the first point. I have never tried placing a Shield Generator here - because usually no one ever discovers the main spot - but it might work depending on your luck and rank.

If the enemies do not get inside, you can potentially have a generator that will encompass the entire building. Try it if you feel reckless.

Third Point

There are no safe placements, neither high ground nor in the building on the left.

Utilizing this wall behind the point might be your only option. Be sure to guard it and put some defensive turrets: once spotted, flankers will try their best to destroy it.
