Skulz's HotS Competitive Hero Tier List January 2018

Skulz's HotS Competitive Hero Tier List January 2018

The Heroes of the Storm Competitive Hero Tier List for January 2018 is ready. It is based on objective data: the drafts in pro games of the previous 30 days.

All heroes are ordered in five tiers based on their draft rate. The tiers are viewed as clusters of data, and each hero is placed in the one they are closer the most. For example, Falstad in tier 3 is closer to Tychus and Gul'dan than he is to Tracer and Jaina.

The tier list is based on picks and bans in pro games during the past 30 days. The performance of a certain hero in pub matches is not a reliable source for this list.

The win rate has no effect on the tiers, but is included for further info. For example, Hanzo is the second most picked hero of the month, and at the same time has an amazing 59% win rate.

No personal opinions. Every month, we will see which heroes raised or declined in rank solely through the statistics.

All tables are responsive and sortable. If you are using a phone, turn it sideways for a full view. Otherwise, zoom in or click the grey area of each table to swipe and sort them.

Tier 1

Hero Name P+B P+B% Picks Picks % Bans Bans % Win %
Greymane 109 98% 83 75% 26 23% 49%
Genji 107 96% 37 33% 70 63% 43%
Hanzo 104 94% 74 67% 30 27% 59%

Tier 2

Hero Name P+B P+B% Picks Picks % Bans Bans % Win %
Uther 77 69% 68 61% 9 8% 56%
E.T.C. 75 68% 48 43% 27 24% 48%
Anub'arak 65 59% 55 50% 10 9% 58%
Rehgar 61 55% 54 49% 7 6% 48%
Abathur 59 53% 8 7% 51 46% 50%
Dehaka 56 50% 36 32% 20 18% 50%
Sonya 56 50% 48 43% 8 7% 48%
Lucio 52 47% 33 30% 19 17% 33%
Muradin 51 46% 49 44% 2 2% 47%

Uther and E.T.C. have a higher draft rate than the other tier 2 heroes, but not enough to reach tier 1. You can consider them a grey area between the two tiers, particularly Uther as he has also a strong 56% win rate.

Tier 3

Hero Name P+B P+B% Picks Picks % Bans Bans % Win %
Malthael 47 42% 19 17% 28 25% 58%
Tyrael 46 41% 31 28% 15 14% 58%
Leoric 46 41% 42 38% 4 4% 48%
Arthas 42 38% 31 28% 11 10% 42%
Malfurion 41 37% 37 33% 4 4% 57%
Li-Ming 38 34% 31 28% 7 6% 48%
Tassadar 36 32% 26 23% 10 9% 38%
Gul'dan 36 32% 24 22% 12 11% 63%
Tychus 34 31% 30 27% 4 4% 43%
Falstad 29 26% 25 23% 4 4% 44%

Generally, tier 4 and 5 heroes are situational. They can be useful when employed to counter a specific draft or create combos with other heroes. Remember: in a competitive environment, not all heroes can adapt to any game, but they still have a niche.

Not drafted heroes

Please note that a tiny amount of data is missing:

  • I couldn't identify the win rate of various heroes with just a few picks.

  • Cho resulted drafted zero times, but had one pick.

  • D.Va was drafted two times, but I found only one pick and zero bans.

All the data in the match-ticker used for this tier list is added manually: a small percentage of mistakes is possible.

Next Tier List: February 2018
