Overwatch ranked Tier List and Meta report: June, Season 10
The Overwatch Ranked Tier List indicates the most popular heroes during season 10. Find out the most successful heroes in this meta depending on your rank.
Based on popularity. The tier list is based exclusively on the popularity of a hero in ranked games. The win rate is considered only to determine the most outstanding heroes in a particular tier.
No pro data. The performance of a hero when used by pro players and teams doesn’t influence the tiers.
General and rank-based meta. The best picks at GrandMaster can differ a lot from the ones at Gold, so I produced both a general ranked tier list and many rank-based ones to point out the meta differences in each rank.
Only PC. This list includes no data from console.
Unfortunately, Blizzard has not released an Overwatch API to access the data of all players in the game, so this list displays no official info. There are several websites that gather data from their users, and I decided to utilize the statistics provided by Overbuff as it is the most popular one.
Not long ago, Jeff Kaplan shared the official data on season 9, and the figures were mostly similar to the ones available on Overbuff. Even if the data isn’t perfect, we can trust it.

Supports’ ultimates to counter the enemy initiation
In most games, you want an AoE ability to counter the enemy ultimates - among the supports, Lucio’s Sound Barrier and Zenyatta’s Transcendence are the best ones. Lucio is a solid pick on some maps, but in the vast majority of games you will want Zenyatta with your lineup.
Brigitte’s Rally is also a reliable tool that can be used for the same goal, and she has a guaranteed spot on the team at most ranks.
I consider Transcendence one of the best support ultimates in the game. It boosts Zenyatta’s versatility as it can be used both offensively and defensively, and it may be vital to conquer a point or to waste all enemy ultimates, basically resetting their attack.
Thanks to Orb of Harmony constantly healing a tank or an offensive hero, and to his own DPS, Zenyatta is able to have Transcendence charged up in no time and ready for the next teamfight. Mercy can also damage boost him to speed up the ultimate charge (as a Mercy, exploit this tool whenever possible also with other ranged heroes)

Most successful heroes (positive win rate, and pick rate above 4%):
Brigitte: 57.1%
Reinhardt: 52.1%
Zenyatta: 51.6%
Zarya: 51.3%
Hanzo: 50.9%
Mercy: 50.3%
Support popularity
Symmetra is still included among the supports because of the statistical tool used for this tier list. Removing her would have caused problems with the data.
Zenyatta has a high skill ceiling
Zenyatta possesses an amazing skill set that works with almost any composition. The meta changed, D.Va and Winston aren’t the most played tanks anymore, but Zenyatta remains a top pick thanks to his versatility.
He is a hard hero to play, but rewards skilled players. His win rate is negative below gold, but afterwards rises to around 52% at Diamond and Master, and reaches 54% at GrandMaster.
Survivability problems
According to the statistics, he is a popular and strong hero, but you do not immediately identify him as a big threat due to his well-known weakness: frailty, and complete lack of mobility and escape skills. Mostly, at low ranks he can usually survive without big problems because many players do not even know how to flank and take down the healers.
Survivability becomes an issue at higher ranks due to the huge number of competent Genji and Tracer players.
Of course, Zenyatta will also receive more help from the team, but he also demands great positioning and communication skills to avoid being harassed and killed. The snipers - Hanzo and Widowmaker - are also a big deal as they can punish him every time he is in the wrong place.
The default duo for healers at GM is composed of Mercy and Zenyatta. Mercy players should keep an eye on Zenyatta, and heal him as soon as he is attacked - considering the general team composition at GM, he will be regularly the easiest target for the enemy offense.
Solo Healing. Zenyatta can’t solo heal, and that is a complication when there is only one healer on the team, and everyone else refuses to switch. Mercy’s pick rate is higher at low ranks because she is commonly considered the best pick in such conditions. Moreover, she has also enough mobility to survive with less help from the team.
A versatile support and DPS
I believe everyone can “play” Zenyatta because he can be looked at as a sort of hybrid DPS who doesn’t require many efforts for the basics: just place your orbs and start auto-attacking. But, in order to master the hero and play him at GM, a higher degree of skill is required.
In pub games, a great Zenyatta player can lead his team to victory thanks to a combination of several factors:
His attacks require a good aim, but he can generate a considerable amount of damage when in the right hands. This is already a serious difference from lower ranks where most players just spam his auto-attack, or at best exploit Orb Volley to get kills while covering a choke. A Zenyatta “on fire” is like an extra DPS for the team.
Orb of Discord boosts the damage of the entire team. This skill encourages team coordination, especially if you are actively communicating in voice chat. +30% damage is a noticeable buff, and if the entire team or at least the main DPS players exploit it, they will be able to bring down the target rapidly.
Finally, we have already talked about Transcendence, which can completely nullify the enemy initiation or help your team to acquire an objective.
Tank popularity
Reinhardt’s popularity is based on other picks
Reinhardt isn’t overpowered, nor can be an immortal shield-bot as in the past, but in this meta you need him in your team, otherwise the opponents will have an advantage.
The deathball meta
Reinhardt’s high pick rate in season 10 is mostly provoked by Brigitte. In the deathball meta led by Brigitte, a mobile shield is required, and Reinhardt is a better choice than Orisa. His individual skill alone doesn’t have a huge impact on the outcome of the match, but he must rely also on Brigitte and Zarya for protection.
The “mind games” between the two Reinhardts leading their respective teams are now more complex because they include two more heroes.
Landing a good Earthshatter or even a Charge became a lot more difficult: Zarya can save her teammates with Barrier, and Brigitte can Whip Shot or stun you with Shield Bash. As a main tank, you do not have the same control you had in the first Overwatch seasons, still, you are forced to play Reinhardt because the meta requires your shield.

Hanzo is the best DPS
Thanks to the recent rework, Hanzo became the best hitscan dps in the game. Before, even if you could always run the combo with Zarya, his damage was inconsistent for most of the match.
Many players who used to main McCree and Soldier: 76 had to learn Hanzo, and choose him as their main damage hero.
Mobility. Soldier: 76 can sprint, but McCree has almost no mobility. Hanzo instead could already Wall Climb to reach favourable positions, and now double jump with Lunge.
Damage output. A bow requires no reload, Storm Bow’s projectile speed increased, and Storm Arrows grants a huge DPS boost with a low 8 seconds cooldown.
Amazing ultimate. Hanzo has a better ultimate than McCree, while Soldier: 76 can’t use Tactical Visor properly in this meta due to the excessive number of shields, barriers, and armor (Brigitte’s Rally).
Note: Hanzo is not a hitscan hero, but he is picked over McCree and Soldier: 76 on that spot. Also, his actual projectile speed makes him a reliable hitscan at low and medium range.
A quick and simplified summary of the meta
Overall, we can summarize that in this meta Reinhardt, Brigitte, Zarya, and Hanzo influence each other, while Zenyatta and Mercy continue holding the crown of best healer duo.
Hanzo is now a dominant DPS, and Brigitte is inadequate against snipers.
The best ultimate that can be paired with Hanzo’s Dragonstrike is Zarya’s Graviton Surge, so her pick rate increased as well. She also performs well with and against Brigitte.
Zarya’s best companion as a main tank is Reinhardt, which is one of the reasons he is back on duty (combined with what was explained before about the deathball meta).
Reinhardt’s shield is also perfect to protect his team from Storm Arrows, and any long-ranged attack in general.
