Focus on defense. I know that Symmetra can be played also in attack, but in these guides I will show only placements for the defender team. Note that some of them might work even for the attackers.

Safe placements. The Shield Generator has an unlimited duration and will keep working until destroyed. The enemy team will try to find and break it as soon as possible, so it is essential to place it in a hidden and “secret” location.

The best spots. I will show you some of the best placements in each map that work even at high SR, and alert when you should avoid an overused or risky one. Beside these locations, there are other viable options depending on your skill rating, but I skipped the obvious ones.

Position and range. The main spots have also pictures showing the max range of each Shield Generator.

No turret climbing or Mei required. For this series, I decided to not feature spots that can be reached only via Mei’s Ice Wall or turret climbing.

Shield Generator or Teleporter. I will not argue about the perfect choice on each map and point, but just explain the best spots for the former. Of course, some of these locations can be used also for the latter.

Please note. I used Sentry Turrets to mark most of the secondary or wrong Shield Generators placement. Unfortunately, it is necessary to restart the lobby to place a new one.

First Point

Most players place their Shield Generator or Teleporter somewhere behind the gate, but that’s one of the first places flankers will check.

Trading some range with safety, you can use one of the two positions above. The effect will still cover a half of the plaza, and generally no one will search for it up here. It is excellent also for the Teleporter.

My "secret" location. To be honest, you will rarely use it as it isn’t easy to get there without being caught.

You can put the generator in this position only after your team loses the main choke. Before, the enemies will move in this area to flank those defending the bridge or to use the big health pack.

This Shield Generator protects the entire plaza and even a small part of the road past the gate. The alternative position in the last picture is slightly safer, at a small range cost.

Do not place your generator here as everyone knows this position. This is commonly one of the first places Tracers will spy for Teleporters. Maybe it could work at lower ranks.

Second Point

My main spot on the second point. Do not underestimate it simply because it is just outside the first spawn. People seldom go there - at least at my rank - and as you can see from the second image, it is not visible from the road.

The generator covers most of the road, from the gate to the end of the second point.

If you wish to be safer, place it inside the spawn after the opponents conquer the first point. It reaches a smaller portion of the road, but the placement is even harder to spot.

The standard location for the second point. Everyone uses it, but it still works at most ranks. The whole area up to the bridge is protected.

Third Point

A very safe placement, and perhaps the only viable one in this area of the map. The opponents rarely come here, and the place is easy to defend, so the Shield Generator might survive undisturbed for the full duration of the match.

Alternatively, you can try planting the generator inside the second spawn of the defender’s team. If no one gets there, the coverage is great. Otherwise, it will be destroyed quickly as you can’t spend resources to defend it.

I decided to include also this small room on the high ground. I do not use it, but depending on the opponents faced, it may work. Maybe you can also create a "room of death" and help to maintain the control of the high ground.
